Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso commented on the altercation that took place near the end of the 10th round La Liga match against Barcelona (2-1).
Recall that seconds before the final whistle, a scuffle broke out between the teams’ benches, resulting in a yellow card for Real Madrid’s substitute goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
Xabi Alonso, quoted by Real Madrid media service
It was the moment and the tension from both teams. These clashes have always happened and are a consequence of the desire to win. There's no need to be alarmed by a clash that is healthy, respectful and good-natured. It was the tension of an important match and a close result. We didn't concede too many chances and I see it as perfectly normal. We shouldn't read too much into these moments of tension.
Currently, Real Madrid lead the Spanish league standings with 27 points, while Barcelona remain in second place with 22 points.
