On September 22 in Paris, the annual Ballon d’Or ceremony took place, honoring the world’s best footballers.
The prestigious award went to Paris Saint-Germain winger and France national team player Ousmane Dembélé, who edged out second-place finisher Lamine Yamal, the winger for Barcelona and Spain.
According to Stats Foot, Lamine Yamal, aged 18 years and 71 days, became the youngest player ever to rank among the top three in Ballon d’Or voting.
It’s worth noting that legendary Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, both 19 years old at the time, were only included in the top 30 contenders during their early years.
