The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to make a push for cricket’s inclusion in the 2028 Olympics. It was in 1900, when cricket was last played in the Olympics when Great Britain squared off against France. Greg Barkley, who is the chair of ICC argued that since the sport has a strong fanbase, especially in South Asia, he wants it to be part of the Olympics long-term.

The ECB chair Ian Whatmore will spearhead the ICC working group while Zimbabwe Cricket’s chair Tavengwa Mukuhlani, chair of the USA cricket Paraag Marathe, and ICC Associate Member Director Mahinda Vallipuram will join him to make a case of inclusion of cricket in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
