Former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Jon Jones shared his opinion on current heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall, who declined to continue his bout against Ciryl Gane.
Jones said on the No Scripts Podcast:
I feel as [though] Tom’s a great athlete, but I do feel like he’s a one-trick pony. I believe that his wrestling and jiu-jitsu is incredibly overrated. He has a beautiful one-two. I got to learn a lot about his patterns in his last fight. Beautiful one-two, but that’s really about it. He couldn’t touch Ciryl Gane at all, that’s the way I feel. I feel like Gane was just getting warmed up. Gane’s hands were down, he was shaking his shoulders, bouncing around.
Gane and Aspinall faced off in the Octagon on October 25 at UFC 321. The fight was stopped in the first round due to repeated eye pokes from Ciryl and was ruled a no-contest.
Tom Aspinall’s previous fight took place in July 2024 at UFC 304, where he knocked out Curtis Blaydes in the first round. His professional record stands at 15 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no-contest.
Ciryl Gane last competed in December 2024 at UFC 310, defeating Alexander Volkov by split decision. His record currently reads 13 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no-contest.
