Magomed Ankalaev’s coach, Sukhrab Magomedov, told Telecomasia.net in an exclusive interview that Khamzat Chimaev, the UFC middleweight titleholder, could likely compete in the light heavyweight division and that he would match up well against Alex Pereira.

Chimaev has probably fought with light heavyweights before, so when he says he could compete at light heavyweight, it makes sense. Khamzat said he would fight Alex Pereira if the Brazilian becomes champion. Maybe Chimaev could fight Pereira. You can fight anyone, but winning is up to the Almighty. But Chimaev could well step in and fight with Pereira. He has a strong wrestling base and feels comfortable in grappling, so he could work effectively against Pereira.
UFC 319 took place in Chicago on August 17. In the main event, Khamzat Chimaev defeated Dricus Du Plessis by unanimous decision; Chimaev’s record is 15–0. Chimaev has previously stated he wants to win titles at light heavyweight and welterweight as well.
