UFC 322 ended in New York, where Islam Makhachev defeated welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena by unanimous decision after a five-round battle.
The victory made Makhachev the first Russian athlete to become a UFC champion in two weight classes. He previously held the lightweight title, which he vacated to move up to 170 pounds.
After the fight, Makhachev emotionally addressed the crowd:
Islam Makhachev
All my life is these two belts. I'm really happy, the belt is so heavy and I like it. I worked hard for this moment, New York, thank you. My life has changed, not having to cut weight… I made this night so easy. Donald Trump, open the White House – I’m coming!
Makhachev’s previous fight was in January 2025 at UFC 311, where he defeated Renato Moicano by submission in the first round. His professional record stands at 28 wins and one loss.
Della Maddalena’s last fight was in May 2025 at UFC 315, where he defeated Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision. His record stands at 18 wins and three losses.
