Coach Morne Visser believes South African fighter Dricus du Plessis can eliminate his grappling weaknesses, including trouble stopping takedowns, in time for next year.
Morne Visser for Submission Radio
I need 12 to 16 weeks, which is like three to four months, to sort this problem out. I don’t need fitness, I don’t need strength, I don’t need conditioning, I don’t need to fix his stand up. I just need to fix this problem, and it’s a fixable problem. I need about 12 to 16 weeks to fix the problem and then go back into camp immediately, a 12-week fight camp. So, we’ll be back early next year.
On August 17 at UFC 319 du Plessis lost his middleweight title to Khamzat Chimaev by unanimous decision, according to Visser’s comments on Submission Radio.
Du Plessis previously fought in February 2025 at UFC 312, where he beat Sean Strickland by unanimous decision. His record is 23 wins and three losses.
Chimaev last fought in October 2024 at UFC 308, submitting Robert Whittaker in the first round. He is 15–0.
