Former UFC lightweight champion and Brazilian fighter Charles Oliveira believes he should not have been stripped of his championship belt for overpowering him before his fight with American Justin Gaethje.
Oliveira defeated Gaethje with a first-round choke hold at UFC 274 in May 2022.
In that fight against Justin Gaethje, everybody knows they stole my belt. Man, people think that over 200 grams, they'd let it slide? But really there was never 200 grams. I made weight on Thursday (a day before weigh-ins), I was good. First (Gaethje's) corner and his coach were always around me, all over the place, like he was from the commission. There was nothing I could do.
On June 29 in Las Vegas (USA) at UFC 317 Charles Oliveira and Ilia Topuria will contest the lightweight division championship belt vacated by Islam Makhachev.
Oliveira last fought at UFC 309 in November 2024, defeating Michael Chandler by unanimous decision. He has 35 wins and ten losses on his record. One fight was ruled a no contest.
Topuria last stepped into the octagon in October 2024 at UFC 308, defeating Max Holloway by knockout in the third round. He has 16 wins and no losses on his record.
