Former UFC Fighter Askren Discharged from Hospital After Lung Transplantation

Former ONE and Bellator welterweight champion, as well as ex-UFC fighter Ben Askren, has been released from the hospital. The American announced this on social media.

In late May, Ben was hospitalized due to a severe staphylococcal infection and pneumonia. On June 30, he underwent a double lung transplant.

Day 59, I’m out! That was a long journey and it’s not over because I still can’t really walk. I have to re-teach myself to do that among many other things. Hopefully I’m not in this situation again for a really, really, really long time. I plan on living a while.

Ben's last fight was against well-known YouTuber Jake Paul in a boxing match in April 2021, where he suffered a first-round knockout. In his MMA career, Askren has 19 wins and two losses, with one fight declared a no contest.

Askren last stepped into the octagon against Demian Maia in October 2019 at UFC Fight Night 162, where he lost by technical submission in the third round.
