Former ACA welterweight champion Albert Tumenov told Telecomasia.net that while some fans might call Khamzat Chimaev’s title performance boring, the result is what matters in a championship fight.
Someone might call Chimaev’s performance boring, but this was a title fight. It doesn’t matter whether the fight was exciting or not, the main thing is the victory. Khamzat is now the champion; he did his job the right way. What if he had gone all out in the early rounds and then lost? People wouldn’t say he fought well early — they would remember the loss.
"Chimaev did his job and won. I think that was deserved. For many fans who hadn’t seen his skills over five rounds, it was also interesting to watch how Chimaev would perform over a 25‑minute distance. That’s definitely not a boring fight. At a high level you can’t always be flashy — finishing or dominating in round one. The opponent had been preparing for you too. In a title fight the most important thing is the result; afterwards nobody will be talking about whether it was boring or not,” Tumenov said.
In the early hours of August 17 in Chicago Chimaev beat Du Plessis by unanimous decision (50–44, 50–44, 50–44). Chimaev is 15–0; Du Plessis is 23–3.
