I Thought I Was Ahead, but I Wanted to Take Muhammad Out of There: Della Maddalena

UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena shared his feelings after defeating Palestinian fighter Belal Muhammad in the main event of UFC 315 in Montreal, Canada.

Recall that Della Maddalena won the fight by unanimous decision, earning the title and becoming the new champion of the division.

Jack Della Maddalena's post-fight interview
Coming in there against someone like Belal with that sort of pressure wrestling, I knew I had to be smart. I looked up at the clock, I saw 30 seconds left, I thought I was ahead, but I wanted to keep pushing. I wanted to take him out of there. I was going for a late finish, but Belal is the man. He’s a tough dude, he’s not easy to put away.

Before this match, Muhammad entered the Octagon in July 2024 at UFC 304, where he secured a unanimous decision victory over Leon Edwards. His record now stands at 24 wins and four losses, with one fight designated as a no contest.

Della Maddalena's previous fight took place in March 2024 at UFC 299, where he knocked out Gilbert Burns in the third round. He now holds a record of 18 wins and two losses.
