In 2000s People Called MMA a Caucasus Sport: Ankalaev’s Coach

Magomed Ankalaev’s coach, Sukhrab Magomedov, told Telecomasia.net in an exclusive interview why there are so few American fighters in the UFC’s current P4P top-10.

Dagestanis stormed into the UFC, and there are fewer Americans in the top ranks. In the 2000s they already said MMA is a Caucasus sport. Everyone wanted to get there, but not everyone could. We’ve always had tough guys in Dagestan, in the Caucasus region.

The updated UFC P4P top five includes Ilia Topuria, Islam Makhachev, Merab Dvalishvili, Khamzat Chimaev and Aleksandar Rakić. Magomed Ankalaev is seventh, and there are no fighters from the United States in the top ten.
