
The legendary American wrestler and actor John Cena has officially retired from WWE.
The 48-year-old Cena held his farewell match on the night of December 14th at the WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event XLII event at the Capital One Arena in Washington. His opponent was Gunther. The match ended with Cena's defeat via submission. Immediately after the final bell, the wrestler symbolically left his sneakers in the center of the ring, announcing the end of his career.
John Cena debuted in WWE on June 27, 2002, and over two decades, he became one of the biggest figures in the promotion's history. He holds the record for the most world championship titles with 17, and also earned the status of a Grand Slam Champion by winning the main belts, the US, Intercontinental, and Tag Team championships.
