Former two-division UFC champion Jon Jones criticized current heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall for withdrawing from his bout against Ciryl Gane at UFC 321, which was declared a no-contest after an accidental eye poke from the French fighter.
When Tom gets hurt, he's like immediately incapacitated. Immediately. It's like, he poked my eye, and then he's like immediately, there's no like (blinking). Dude, I would have been the silliest looking cat on national TV (blinking). Trying.
“Same thing with Curtis Blaydes when he hurt his knee. There was no limping. There was no trying to get up. It's just like immediately, burn my village I can't go on like this. He immediately quits. When he got tapped out with an ankle lock, there was no trying to fight his hands. He immediately quit,” Jones added.
Gane and Aspinall faced off in the Octagon on October 25 at UFC 321. The fight was stopped in the first round due to repeated eye pokes from Ciryl and was ruled a no-contest.
Tom Aspinall’s previous fight took place in July 2024 at UFC 304, where he knocked out Curtis Blaydes in the first round. His professional record stands at 15 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no-contest.
Ciryl Gane last competed in December 2024 at UFC 310, defeating Alexander Volkov by split decision. His record currently reads 13 wins, 2 losses, and 1 no-contest.
