In an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, former UFC fighter Aleksei Oleinik believes former lightweight champion Islam Makhachev can perform well in the welterweight division.
"It’s complicated. On one hand, it’s a bit tougher. On the other, it’s a bit easier, because he doesn’t have to cut as much weight and so on. He spends less energy and strength. So, he can come in in slightly better shape, and show his new sides,” Oleinik said.

Islam is a very high-level fighter, both technically and physically. I don’t think lightweight was his limit. He will definitely be at the highest level in welterweight. Will he be first? We’ll see. But he will certainly be in the top three.
Recall that Islam Makhachev is set for a title fight against Jack Della Maddalena, headlining UFC 322 on November 16 in New York, USA. The 29-year-old Australian’s record is 18 wins and 2 losses. The 34-year-old Russian has 27 wins and 1 loss.
