MMA Fighting publication refuses to put Jones on top of UFC heavyweight division

Reputable edition MMA Fighting believes newly crowned heavyweight champion Jon Jones does not deserve to lead the promotion's division rankings.

Why did the heavyweight belt become vacant? Because legitimate champion Ngannou didn't lose the title and left the UFC earlier this year.

The fight between Jones and Ciryl Gane headlined the UFC 285 tournament, which took place on March 5. Jon won the fight by a choke in the first round of the UFC 285 tournament. Jones has 27 wins and one loss under his belt.

Ngannou fought his last fight also against Gane in January, 2022, at UFC 270. In this fight, Francis won by unanimous decision. He has 17 wins and three losses in mixed martial arts under his belt.
