Welterweight veterans Neil Magny and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos collide in the main card of UFC on ESPN 71 this weekend at the UFC Apex in a fight for survival following a run of negative results. American fighter Neil Magny, who turns 38 on Sunday, was once a mainstay of the welterweight division, holding the record for most wins in the division. Still, he enters the octagon off consecutive losses. Brazil’s Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos was smashed by Chidi Njokuani last March and has one victory from his previous four fights. The Brazilian who once beat the former UFC Middleweight champion Sean Strickland is the bookies' favorite to get a win here.

Neil Magny

Neil Magny looks like a man who has run his race. In his last eight appearances in the octagon, "The Haitian Sensation" has won just three fights. Last November, Magny was knocked out by Carlos Prates for his second TKO loss of the year, following a similar loss to Michael Morales earlier in August. Previously ranked in the division, Magny has fallen out of the ranked places. His last victory was a TKO over Mike Malott in January 2024. Neil Magny joined the UFC in 2013 and has the record for most bouts in UFC welterweight history.

Nicknamed "Capoeira" because he grew up training in the art, dos Santos was 7-1 in his first eight UFC fights. A 2019 loss to Li Jingliang started an inconsistent run that has delivered four wins from nine outings. Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos recorded a 15th knockout victory from 25 fights with a TKO of Zach Scroggin last November.
