From the very first seconds, Pereira applied pressure and kept pushing. It’s clear that working as the aggressor was the main task. He did take a heavy shot – but when you’re a knockout artist and your plan is to be the aggressor, this was probably the properly executed game plan for the fight.
Recall that the second fight between Ankalaev and Pereira ended with the Brazilian’s technical knockout victory in the first round. Pereira has 13 wins and 3 losses. The Russian fighter’s record stands at 20 wins, two losses, and one draw, with one no contest.
