Current UFC light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira has admitted he is ignoring medical advice by refusing to wear a protective orthopedic boot for speeding up his recovery from a foot injury sustained during his rematch with Magomed Ankalaev.
In an interview with MMA Hoje, the Brazilian fighter revealed that doctors had recommended he wear the brace for an additional six weeks but that he chose not to follow their instructions.
I got some more opinions. On one hand it's good, but on the other hand it could atrophy my foot a bit more.
The rematch between Pereira and Ankalaev headlined UFC 320 in Las Vegas on October 5. Pereira won the fight via first-round technical knockout, reclaiming the UFC light heavyweight title.
Pereira now holds a professional MMA record of 13 wins and 3 losses. Ankalaev’s record stands at 20 wins, 2 losses, 1 draw, and 1 no-contest.
