Former interim UFC lightweight champion Dustin Poirier spoke about his upcoming third fight with Max Holloway, after which he plans to retire. The fighters will headline UFC 318, taking place on July 20 in New Orleans, USA.
Dustin Poirier
I tried to do everything right, not that I didn't before, I just tried to be extra. Just trying to get ahead of everything, trying to make the last one the best one, and show the world that I'm walking away from the sport, not because I feel I can't compete with these guys or anything like that. I'm not getting squeezed out of the sport. I'm not letting the sport retire me. I want to leave on my terms.
Recall that their first encounter occurred in February 2012 at UFC 143, where Poirier won via submission (triangle choke and elbow lock) in the first round. In April 2019, at UFC 236, Poirier defeated Holloway by unanimous decision. Poirier boasts a record of 30 wins, nine losses, and one no contest. Holloway has 26 wins and eight losses.
