Russian MMA fighter Alexandr Shablyi shared in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net what could give Russian Petr Yan a chance to defeat UFC bantamweight champion Georgian Merab Dvalishvili.
Looking at how confidently Merab beats his opponents, he might break Jose Aldo’s record of title defenses. It’s clear he improves with each fight and becomes more confident. He’s hard to wrestle with, hard to box against, and even harder to catch a break from, which I believe is genetic.
"If the fight with Petr happens, he has a chance to get him in the stand-up. Petr likes to fight as the aggressor and counter quickly, something Cory didn’t show today. I think the fear of wrestling limits his opponents – they can’t break guard and apply pressure. They need a solid game plan, good sparring partners, ideally a camp with wrestlers beforehand, and then they can try. I believe Petr can catch him,” Shablyi said.
Recall that after his victory over Cory Sandhagen at UFC 320, Merab Dvalishvili proposed a second fight against Petr Yan in December this year. Their first encounter ended with a unanimous decision win for the Georgian.
