UFC commentator Jon Anik has stated that a heavyweight unification fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall can take place later this year in Las Vegas.
Anik said at the press conference before UFC 316 after fans began chanting ”Strip Jones”:
Jon Anik
So I think a fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall is bigger if they are both champions. I’m hopeful they’re going to fight in December in Las Vegas. I have no inside information. But I don’t know that Jon Jones really gives a rip if they strip him of the heavyweight championship. He’s still going to fight Tom, hopefully, and it’s still going to be a bag.
Aspinall last fought in July 2024 at UFC 304, defeating Curtis Blaydes by first-round knockout. He has 15 wins and three losses to his name in mixed martial arts.
Jones last stepped into the octagon in November 2024 at UFC 309, defeating Stipe Miocic by technical knockout in the third round. He has 28 wins and one loss to his credit. One fight has been ruled a no contest.
