Russian UFC fighter Irina Alekseeva told Telecomasia.net in an exclusive interview about the results of her tests after a leukemia scare that she had earlier mentioned on social media.
Irina Alekseeva exclusively for Telecom Asia Sport
Regarding my illness, I am currently treating bone marrow problems. As I said before, this will take a year, and four or five months have already passed. Now in camp, while I’m training hard, we will understand what to do and how. Last time during the fight everything was fine, but after the fight I started to feel some pain. At the moment leukemia has not been confirmed, everything is fine. But they found a high concentration of platelets, which caused me to bruise. I was prescribed a new treatment, and the tests have improved. I can train calmly now, and I stopped having bruises for no reason. I feel better already.
Recall that Irina Alekseeva's next fight will take place on October 12 at UFC Fight Night 261 in Brazil. The Russian's opponent will be local debutant, Brazilian BJJ legend Beatriz Mesquita.
The 35-year-old Alekseeva has five wins and three losses. In her last two fights Irina lost to her opponents. The 34-year-old Mesquita has five wins and no losses. For Beatriz this will be her UFC debut.
