Former UFC welterweight division champion Kamaru Usman admitted he expects to get a title fight if he defeats Joaquin Buckley at UFC on ESPN 69, which takes place June 15 in Atlanta (USA).

My path there is pretty simple. It's finish Buckley this weekend and then wait for the winner of, I believe, Islam (Makhachev) and JDM (Jack Della Maddalena). (I'd) win that and go ahead and probably vacate, go up. Myself (vs.) Dricus Du Plessis, if he is the champion, or Khamzat Chimaev, too, if Dricus is no longer the champion, we do that. If Dricus is the champion, we do that in the first card in Africa. That's another blockbuster. These are back-to-back blockbuster fights you tell your grandkids about.
Usman last stepped into the octagon against Khamzat Chimaev in October 2023 at UFC 294. That fight went the full distance and ended with Kamaru losing by majority decision. He has 20 wins and four losses on his MMA record.
Buckley last fought against Colby Covington in December 2024 at UFC on ESPN 63. Joaquin won that fight, which was stopped in the third round by technical knockout. He has 21 wins and six losses in his career.
