Ecuadorian UFC fighter Marlon Vera admitted that in the title rematch against American Sean O’Malley, he made a serious mistake by letting emotions overpower strategy.
Marlon Vera for Shak MMA
I wasn’t fighting very smart. I fought just thinking, ‘I’m gonna kill this guy.’ I wanted to hurt him, step on his neck, and throw a rock in his face. That’s how I fought – and that’s bad. I learned my lesson and paid for it. It was the biggest opportunity of my life.
The bantamweight title rematch between Vera and O’Malley took place in March 2024 at UFC 299. In this fight, Sean won by unanimous decision. Their first fight, held in August 2020, ended in Marlon’s favor via technical knockout in the first round.
32-year-old Vera will next fight against Aimann Zakhabi on the night of October 19 at UFC Fight Night 262 in Vancouver, Canada. His record stands at 23 wins, 10 losses, and one draw.
