The number two ranked UFC heavyweight, Alexander Volkov, stated that the league could hold a fight for the interim title if division champion Tom Aspinall requires surgery.
In October 2025, at UFC 321, Aspinall suffered an eye injury after a poke from Ciryl Gane.

A lot depends on Aspinall's state and whether he accepts a fight with Gane. Maybe we will consider a fight with Gane for the interim belt if Aspinall undergoes surgery. There seems to be some info about that, but there are also some statements that they will fight in January. So we will wait.
Volkov last stepped into the octagon against Jailton Almeida in October 2025 at UFC 321. Alexander won that fight by split decision. He holds a record of 39 wins and 11 losses. Gane has 13 wins, two losses, and one no contest.
