UFC 6 winner Oleg Taktarov, in an exclusive interview with Telecomasia.net, commented on Alexander Volkov’s performance against Jailton Almeida at UFC 321.
“I don’t know if Dana White gave any advice to the judges for Volkov vs. Almeida, but because of what happened, Dana owes him nothing more. Dana settled everything with Volkov. I don’t know how the judges give their evaluation. But yesterday I didn’t want to talk to anyone after such a fight. Alexander is an aged fighter, and yesterday I played football just like he fought.
Every time Almeida attempted a takedown, he fell. I'm blaming it on a bad day. I also couldn’t run or accelerate yesterday, and I had no desire to play. Since Volkov and I are both introverts, I think it was a bad day for all introverts. But today, I played defense well, didn’t let anyone into the penalty area, then went on the attack and started scoring. That’s what Volkov should have done yesterday – not let Almeida get to his legs.
"Yesterday just wasn’t his day. You could see it when he entered the cage. I had to take him into the octagon, be by his side. To pull him out of that emotional abyss Alexander is falling into again. I think if Volkov fought today, he would have succeeded,” Taktarov said.
Volkov defeated Almeida by split decision at UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi. Volkov’s record is 38 wins and 11 losses. Almeida has 22 wins and 4 losses.
