10- Year-Old Roman Shogdzhiev Becomes Youngest International Chess Master in History

Russian Roman Shogdzhiev has set a new historical record by becoming the youngest international chess master in history. According to the press service of the Russian Chess Federation, he achieved this title at the age of 10 years, 3 months and 21 days.

He surpassed the previous achievement of Argentine Faustino Oro, who became an international master at the age of 10 years, 8 months and 16 days.

Shogdzhiev achieved his third and final standard at the RADNICKICHESS tournament in Belgrade. The title of International Master is the penultimate on the way to the title of Grandmaster.

The young chess player previously became the 2023 World Champion and the 2022 European Champion among boys under 8 years. His current rating in classical chess is 2329, 2405 in Rapid and 2390 in Blitz.
