17‑Year‑Old Spanish Cyclist Dies During Vuelta Ribera del Duero Race

Spanish bicycle racer Ivan Melendez Luque died after a crash on the second stage of the multi-stage Vuelta Ribera del Duero race in Soria province.

The 17‑year‑old from team Tenerife‑Cabberty U19 was involved in a mass pileup. His injuries turned out to be fatal, and several other cyclists are in serious condition. Medical staff were called to the scene, but there were not enough ambulances, and the stage was cancelled.

UCI president David Lappartient expressed his condolences to the cyclist’s family on social media.
