Julia Simon, a famous French biathlete and multiple world and Olympic titleholder, was sentenced to a three-month suspended sentence for bank card fraud, reports L'Equipe.
In addition to the suspended sentence, she must pay a fine of 15,000 euros. In summer 2023, as reported by RMC Sport, Simon was suspected of unauthorized use of other people’s bank cards for online transactions during the Blink international festival in Norway in summer 2022.
Simon faced two complaints: one from her national team colleague, 2022 Olympic champion Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, and another from an anonymous member of the French team. The total losses exceeded one thousand euros. Simon had previously strongly denied all allegations.
In October 2023, the biathlete was detained for witness testimony in a criminal case involving fraud, theft, and breach of trust. After questioning, she was released.
