Keshorn Walcott has admitted he was obsessed with winning a World Championship title, after finally achieving his dream in Tokyo, Japan. The 32-yerar old, Olympic Champion from London in 2012 managed to attain his dream with a season’s best throw of 88.16 to edge out Granada’s former World Champion Anderson Pieters who clinched bronze and USA’s Curtis Thompson who settled for bronze at third place.
And, speaking to Telecomasia.net after his win in Tokyo, Walcott said he was over the moon.
I have been so obsessed with this one; I have wanted it so bad. I have always wanted it and I knew that I had more in me, I knew that I could throw 94,95 and that kept me going. When I think about it, when I talk about it, that always motivated me. It was painful at times when I don’t get it but I kept going. We work for moments like this and it feels amazing to finally win this and finally to say that I am a World Champion. It sounds good.
Walcott, who has multiple medals around his neck had never stepped on a World Championship podium. He however says his never say die attitude lifted him.
I have been chasing this for so many years since 2013. Every World Championship I came and it was always so difficult and at times I would think maybe it will never happen. But I remained persistent. The best I ever did was become seventh but this year we made some changes and we worked towards this and now it is my moment again.
He was also delighted that the javelin podium was swept by athletes from the Americas and believes it is an inspiration to those behind them.
