Despite clocking the world leading time in the 800m this season, Kenya’s Olympic champion Emmanuel Wnayonyi is not yet satisfied, and want to improve on his finish even as talk soar of him breaking the two-lap world record.
The 21-year old Kenyan picked a second consecutive Diamond League victory when he crossed the finish line first in the Stockholm leg, clocking 1:41.95. Speaking to Telecomasia after the victory, Wanyonyi said he was delighted to have won with a fast time.
It was a very tough race for me because I was not feeling too well but I had to give a good effort and push. I was delighted to have run under 1:42 in such a short turnaround from my last race and there are some positives to pick. But, heading back home, I want to work a bit more on my speedwork and imprive my finishing.
Wanyonyi won in Stockholm just three days after running to victory in Oslo, in a then season’s best time of 1:42.78. Lowering the time further means he is building up his season, and the belief is that he will get faster in the consecutive races.
The Kenyan reiterates that his biggest focus this season is the World Championships, with his eyes trained on the title.
