Australian teen sprint sensation Gout Gout believes he is just getting started on the route to the top, despite not making it to the final in his debut at the World Athletics Championships. Gout, 17, finished fourth in the men’s 200m at the Championships in Tokyo, and only fell short by a fraction to make it to his first ever final.
And, words from multiple world and Olympic champion Usain Bolt have only but fuelled the flame in the Australian teen’s ambition to be the best sprinter ever. Bolt paid glowing tribute to the Australian’s talent, saying he is the next big thing.
And, speaking to Telecomasia.net after his semi-final, Gout says words from Bolt have strengthened his will to go all out.
It definitely feels very inspiring to hear and get to know that the best to ever do it is seeing my talent, seeing my abilities and how far I can get. His words mean a lot to me and they inspire me to keep doing what I do and keep doing that knowing that I have great support. I just need to keep showing up, doing my thing and I am confident that come the next World Championship, things will be better. I just focus on my training, focus on my game plan and focus on getting better.
At 17, the World Junior Championship silver medalist made history at the Worlds, competing with established names and giving them a run for their money.
