Italian Swimmers Suspended for Theft at Singapore Airport

Italian swimmers Benedetta Pilato and Chiara Tarantino were suspended for 90 days due to theft at a duty-free shop in Singapore airport, the Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) reported.

The athletes were vacationing in Bali after the World Championships and were returning to Italy via Singapore. They were detained near the boarding gate.

Footage shows Tarantino placing perfume into Pilato’s bag without paying. Italian diplomats assisted the swimmers in returning home. It is noted that Pilato has cooperated with the investigation.

They will now miss the 2025 Short Course European Championships, to be held in Poland in December.
