Kostomarov's circle reports his extremely unstable condition

The condition of the 2006 Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov is currently assessed as extremely unstable, as reported to RBC Sport by two sources in the circle of the athlete.

One of them said that he was severely affected by the surgery on his hands, while the other said that doctors had to put the patient on a ventilator again.

On January 10, Match TV reported that Kostomarov, 45, was hospitalized in a serious condition with signs of unilateral pneumonia and influenza. Two weeks later, the athlete was put in a medically induced coma and connected to ECMO and ventilator systems. There was an improvement in the skater's condition, but there were complications after the disease, namely the development of gangrene and sepsis. Previously, Kostomarov had already had his left foot and fingers amputated. It was reported that doctors managed to avoid the amputation of the right leg by scraping away the dead tissue.

On February 14, doctor and prosthesis developer Maksim Lyashko in a conversation with Sport24 noted that it would be possible to fit Kostomarov with prostheses for him to continue figure skating even after amputation.
