Nathan Chen Will Not Defend Olympic Title in 2026

Beijing Olympic champion in men’s singles figure skating Nathan Chen does not plan to defend his title at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

The 26-year-old American told the Los Angeles Times he wants to explore new opportunities and figure out what suits him best:

And frankly, at this point in time in my life, I've already accomplished enough in skating that I'm quite satisfied with my career.

After Chen’s gold medals at the Beijing Olympics (both the individual and team events) he has not competed, though he has not officially announced his retirement.

His record also includes a team bronze at the 2018 Olympics and three world championship titles, earned in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
