Olympic Champion Kostomarov on Leaving Hospital After Several Amputations: I Lost a Lot in the Fight Against Death

Olympic champion in ice dancing Roman Kostomarov commented on his discharge from the hospital in his social networks. The treatment of the skater took 175 days.

Roman Kostomarov
175 days are behind me. My whole life is ahead of me. I am alive thanks to the doctors. Unfortunately, I lost a lot in this fight with death. But there was no other way. A huge team under the leadership of Denis Protsenko made the impossible happen. They got me back to life.

Recall that the athlete was hospitalized on January 10 with a severe form of pneumonia. As a result of long-term lung ventilation, the figure skater's blood flow was disrupted, causing tissue infections in his hands and feet. To save Kostomarov's life, the medics performed a series of amputations of the affected limbs.

Sports neurologist Igor Rudyakov said that Kostomarov would no longer be able to perform complex spins and jumps.
