Three-time Olympic swimming champion Sarah Sjöström has become a mother. The 32-year-old athlete gave birth to a son, Adrian, in an ambulance in Stockholm.
Labor began two weeks early. According to Aftonbladet, Sjöström was first sent home after an examination at a clinic, but she soon began to bleed and called an ambulance. The nearest hospital could not accept her because there were no available beds, and the child was born en route to another medical facility.

The pain was indescribable and it was too late for any pain relief that I had planned to take. I really didn't think I would survive. From unimaginable pain and fear to the most magical moment of our lives. It was traumatic and magical all at once.
Sarah Sjöström is the Olympic champion in the 100 m butterfly (2016) and in the 50 m and 100 m freestyle (2024). She is a 14-time world champion and a 17-time European champion. The athlete plans to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
