The search operation for two-time Olympic biathlon champion Laura Dahlmeier has been suspended due to darkness, according to a representative from the local tourism administration.
Earlier reports revealed that the athlete sustained serious injuries from a rockfall while attempting to ascend Laila Peak in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan. The incident took place on July 28 at an altitude of approximately 5,700 meters. Dahlmeier's climbing partner called for emergency services.
The search for the German athlete will resume on Wednesday, July 30, involving experienced climbers from several countries.
It is worth noting that in May 2019, Dahlmeier announced her retirement from professional sports on her social media, citing a loss of motivation to continue competing.
