
Four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome was seriously injured in a training crash in France on August 27, the rider’s social media account reported.
The 40-year-old Briton was airlifted to a hospital in Toulon. He was diagnosed with a collapsed lung, fractures of five ribs, and damage to a lumbar vertebra. His head was not injured. According to the media reports, the athlete has already successfully undergone surgery and his condition is currently estimated as stable.
Froome is one of the most decorated stage-race cyclists, with wins at all three Grand Tours — Tour de France (2013, 2015, 2016, 2017), Vuelta a España (2011, 2017), and Giro d’Italia (2018).
