Former javelin world champion Julius Yego picked his first win in the Diamond League since 2016, when he threw a best of 83.60 to win in the Silesia Leg of the competition. Yego has had a great build up this season, and he believes his throw in Silesia has pushed his confidence up ahead of the Worlds in Tokyo.
The Kenyan 35-year old beat a competitive field that also included former Olympic medalists Keshorn Walcott and Anderson Pieters. Speaking to Telecomasia from Poland after the win, Yego says he was delighted.
Julius Yego
It was really great to have that winning feeling back. Of course I would have wanted to throw a longer distance but nonetheless, I feel like what I did was great especially in terms of motivation and getting myself mentally pumped. It has boosted my belief and now I go back home to prepare with some good state of mind. I want to finish on the podium at the World Championships and this has just made my belief even stronger.
Yego will be competing in his seventh World Championship, 10 years after he won the title in Beijing, China, in 2015.
