The World Karate Federation (WKF) awarded actors Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio black belts for their contribution to the popularization of martial arts. This is reported by the press service of the organization.
The ceremony was held in New York at the premiere of the movie Karate Kid: Legends.
WKF President Antonio Espinós
Karate holds a privileged position in popular culture and in communities around the world. It is a discipline and a global brand known to people everywhere. Few have captured the fantastic values of karate better than the Karate Kid franchise.
The movie Karate Kid: Legends is centered around Li Fong (Ben Wang), who leaves his home in Beijing and is forced to move to New York City with his mother. Li takes part in karate competitions, but his skills prove to be insufficient. Li's teacher, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), enlists the help of the first “karate kid” Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), and Li combines their two styles into one for a decisive showdown.
