Former ATP World No. 1, winner of 20 Grand Slam tournaments, and 2008 Olympic gold medalist in men's doubles, Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, commented on his induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
It was announced on November 19 that the 44-year-old Federer, who topped the men's ranking for 310 consecutive weeks and officially retired in September 2022 after appearing at the Laver Cup alongside Spain's Rafael Nadal, will become a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2026.
Previously, former Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, a five-time Grand Slam winner, 2004 WTA Finals champion, and 2012 Olympic silver medalist, was granted a similar honor.
It’s a tremendous honor to be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame and to stand alongside so many of the game’s great champions. Throughout my career, I’ve always valued the history of tennis and the example set by those who came before me. I look forward to visiting Newport next August to celebrate this special moment with the tennis community.
On September 22, on a podcast hosted by former American tennis player, 2003 US Open winner, and 2007 Davis Cup champion Andy Roddick, Federer shared that he felt calm and relieved at the moment of his last professional career match.
