Five-time Grand Slam winner and world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has a chance to become ATP world No. 1 after the 2025 US Open, overtaking four-time major champion Jannik Sinner.
Following Alcaraz’s win at the Cincinnati Masters, the gap between him and Sinner in the world rankings is 1,890 points. At the 2025 US Open Sinner must defend 2,000 points for last year’s title, while Alcaraz is defending only 50 points for reaching the second round. Therefore Alcaraz can become world No. 1 if he wins as many or more matches than Sinner at the upcoming US Open.
Sinner has held the ATP top spot since June 2024.
