Wimbledon to Allow Mourning Armbands in Memory of Diogo Jota

The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club will make an exception to its strict dress code for Wimbledon participants, allowing them to wear mourning armbands to honor the memory of Liverpool and Portugal footballer Diogo Jota, who tragically died in an accident.

The 28-year-old Jota and his 25-year-old brother Andre Silva lost their lives on July 3 in a car crash in Spain.

Wimbledon is known for its requirement that players wear all-white attire during matches. However, tournament organizers will permit players to don black mourning armbands in tribute to Jota.

Jota was a two-time UEFA Nations League champion with the Portugal national team, as well as an English Premier League champion and FA Cup winner with Liverpool.

Tennis players Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal have previously expressed their condolences on social media following the tragic news of the footballer's passing.
