The FIFA Intercontinental Cup final brings together two very different footballing worlds, as Paris Saint-Germain face Flamengo in what promises to be a captivating showdown. Europe’s star-studded champions go up against South America’s most prolific side, with both teams chasing global recognition and the chance to lift a prestigious world title.

PSG comes into the final after a challenging start to the new season, especially when measured against their remarkable campaign last year, when they swept aside all domestic and continental competition. The only thing missing from that historic run was a first global crown, as they fell 3–0 to Chelsea in the Club World Cup final.

Flamengo, on the other hand, arrives riding a wave of success. They edged Palmeiras 1–0 in Lima, Peru, to win the Copa Libertadores, becoming the first Brazilian club to lift the trophy four times. That continental triumph was followed by domestic glory, as they also secured the league title, capping an outstanding season under Felipe Luís. 

On their road to the Intercontinental Cup final, the Brazilian giants eased past Cruz Azul with a 2–1 win before producing a confident 2–0 victory over Pyramids in the semifinals. With momentum on their side, Flamengo now stand one step away from adding another major honour to an already memorable year.

Newcastle vs Fulham

Eddi Howe’s team will now be aiming to secure a semi-final spot in the EFL Cup for the second time in a row. 

Fulham have had to work hard to reach this stage of the 2025–26 EFL Cup. They booked their place by seeing off Bristol City 2–0 in their first game, edging past Cambridge United 1–0 in their second game, and then securing their place in the Quarterfinals against Wycombe Wanderers via a penalty shootout.
