The Premier League returns this Saturday as Tottenham Hotspur host newly promoted Burnley at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It is the first competitive match in charge for Thomas Frank, who replaced Ange Postecoglou after Spurs endured a turbulent 2024/25 season. They finished 17th in the league but salvaged Champions League qualification with a Europa League triumph over Manchester United. Meanwhile, Wolves will welcome Man City at Molineux Stadium as part of the England Premier league round 1 matchup. After fighting and escaping relegation last season, Wolves will aim to secure a win on their home soil in their opening matchup, while Man City that ended in 3rd place last season, but four times title winners will aim to secure a win on the road. Meanwhile, Mallorca and Barcelona will play against one another in the opening matchup of Spanish La liga 2025/2026 season at Estadi Mallorca Son Moix Stadium. Mallorca will aim to prevent losing in their opening matchup of the season, even though they have lost each of their last eight games against the visiting team, while Barcelona will aim to secure a win since they have won all their last eight games against the home team.

Frank inherits a side that scored 64 league goals last term but conceded 65, keeping only two home clean sheets. Pre-season brought mixed results: wins over Reading and Arsenal, draws with Wycombe, Luton and Newcastle, and a heavy 4-0 defeat to Bayern Munich. While there are signs of greater structure under Frank, defensive vulnerabilities remain.

Burnley returned to the top flight after a dominant Championship campaign in which they amassed 100 points and conceded just 16 goals. They were exceptional on the road, winning 14 of 23 away games and conceding only eight goals. Coming into this match, I expect both teams to perform in their opening match of the season, and I expect more than two goals to be recorded.

Predicted & Confirmed Lineups

🔖 Tottenham predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Guglielmo Vicario (GK), Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Djed Spence, Lucas Bergvall, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Pape Sarr, Brennan Johnson, Richarlison.

🔖 Burnley predicted lineup (3-2-4-1): Max Weiss (GK), Kyle Walker, Hjalmar Ekdal, Maxime Esteve, Oliver Sonne, Quilindschy Hartman, Hannibal Mejbri, Josh Cullen, Josh Laurent, Jaidon Anthony, Lyle Foster.

After winning a record four Premier League titles on the bounce, Manchester City endured a disappointing campaign last season, as they finished in third position, a massive 13 points behind winners Liverpool. The Citizens also failed to win a trophy, as they were beaten 1-0 in the FA Cup final by Crystal Palace on an afternoon where our man SlipsTips landed a couple of winners. Pep Guardiola’s men also took part in the Club World Cup over the summer, and after cruising through their group, they were surprisingly eliminated in the last-16 to Saudi side Al-Hilal.

Meanwhile, Wolves endured a disastrous start to the campaign last season, as they earned a solitary point from their opening eight Premier League matches. However, following the arrival of Vitor Pereira, the Old Gold did eventually climb out of the relegation zone and finished in 16th position, a massive 17 points clear of the relegation zone. Since both teams are expected to come back strong in this season, I expect a heavy scoring play, while I expect more than two goals.

Predicted & Confirmed Lineups

🔖 Wolverhampton predicted lineup (4-4-2): Jose Sa (GK), Matt Doherty, Emmanuel Agbadou, Toti Gomes, Ki-Jana Hoever, Joao Gomes, Andre, David Moeller Wolfe, Jhon Arias, Fer Lopez, Joergen Strand Larsen.

🔖 Manchester City predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): James Trafford (GK), Matheus Nunes, Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias, Rayan Ait Nouri, Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Rayan Cherki, Tijjani Reijnders, Omar Marmoush, Erling Haaland

Mallorca have made one major addition and that involved Barcelona, with Pablo Torre moving to the Balearic Islands on a €5m deal. He’s a likely debutant on the opening weekend for Jagoba Arrasate’s side who won four of six in pre-season. They were 2-0 winners over Hamburg in their final friendly, and are hoping to build on last season’s solid mid-table finish.

The Catalan giants have won all four pre-season games, scoring 20 goals in the process. While three of those matches were against limited opponents in the Far East, a dominant 5-0 victory over Como in the Joan Gamper Trophy last time out suggests they are in pretty good shape.

The pre-season has thrown up a few issues for Barca though. Marc-Andre ter Stegen was removed and then reinstated as captain, while key centre-back Inigo Martinez surprisingly moved to Al-Nassr. Joan Garcia and Marcus Rashford have arrived, with the club hopeful they can be registered before this showdown at Son Moix. So, the home team will aim to prevent a defeat in their opening match of the season, while the visiting team will aim to secure a win. I expect more than 9 corner kicks to be recorded since I expect the home team to show a defensive play, while the visiting team will also keep on attacking.

Predicted & Confirmed Lineups

🔖 Mallorca predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Leo Roman (GK), Mateu Morey, Martin Valjent, Antonio Raillo, Johan Mojica, Omar Mascarell, Manu Morlanes, Takuma Asano, Sergi Darder, Pablo Torre, Vedat Muriqi.

🔖 Barcelona predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia (GK), Jules Kounde, Ronald Araujo, Pau Cubarsi, Alejandro Balde, Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Raphinha, Ferran Torres.
