Premier League Shoutouts This Weekend: Accumulator Tip For August 23

While we wait for dust to completely settle in the Premier League, the opening fixture pairings seemed to have sparked various emotions from fans around the globe. Although some of the big names delivered victories against their rivals, there were some shocking plays witnessed in the opening matchday.

From Chelsea’s stalemate to Manchester United’s loss, the thrills of the Premier League continue to keep us engrossed, while enjoying the perks of the best games on the planet. 

Today, as the Manchester Blues host the Spurs, the Lions of Aston Villa travel to play Brentford and Leeds United will prepare their defenses against the almighty Gunners. 

Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur

The Manchester Blues are paired against the Spurs ahead of the second matchday of the English Premier League. The 4-0 clash against Wolverhampton was a solid start to the season for the men who travelled from the famed Etihad grounds. The Spurs delivered devastating blows to Burnley FC last week, in what seemed like an unending reign of torture for the visitors who didn’t expect such an outcome.

The last ten meetings between the sides produced four wins for Manchester City, one stalemate and five wins for Tottenham Hotspur. This will be another Guardiola-Frank meeting, with the last eight matches producing five wins for Pep Guardiola, and two wins for Thomas Frank. 

It is yet to be determined how much Kevin De Bruyne’s absence will take a toll on the team, with the team sailing comfortably through their recent games. 

For Tottenham, the Super Cup grand finale against Paris Saint Germain exposed lapses in the lineup, especially the defense lines, composed of a set that allowed a slump from a clear two-goal advantage to an eventual 2-2 full-time tie.

My bet here will be a smooth victory for the hosts, who have all it takes to be full-time winners.

Brentford vs Aston Villa

The Bees of Brentford are likely to draw blood against the Lions of Aston Villa. In the opening game of the season, the Bees played a 3-1 game against Nottingham Forest in a match that seemed to undermine their herculean efforts. The Foresters took an early lead and maintained status-quo in both halves, eventually triumphing in the four-goal thriller.

For Aston Villa, they returned from the game against Newcastle bearing casualties, with a red card - courtesy of a last man professional foul that curated mixed feelings for both the player punished and the fans, who showed great appreciation with an ovation. 

Although Brentford scored in their opening endeavour, they returned without any point. However, the visitors who have not been privileged to send the ball past the net returned with a point. Motivation riots in both camps and the two sides are desperately seeking ways to return to winning ways. 

My bet is a victory for Unai Emery’s side, the visitors, who are keen on producing a solid outcome, given the slightest opportunity.

Arsenal FC vs Leeds United

The Gunners will comfortably play from home in the second round of this season’s tournament against Leeds United. So far, Arsenal has never lost against Leeds United, with ten recent meetings producing nine wins and one stalemate between the sides.

The Gunners are one of the most prestigious teams this season and there is no reason why they should be doubted to be among top contenders for the EPL silverware this season. Leeds on the other hand also managed a 1-0 win over Everton in the opening matchday. 

Between these sides, squad quality has always been the contrasting highlight. While Leeds United is at best, a collection of hard workers, the North London squad are heavily star-studded.
