GWS Giants ended on the losing end the previous weekend against the Adelaide Crows, suffering a 94-78 defeat in a road game. However, that defeat will make it the third time GWS Giants will end on the losing end in just five consecutive games, having also lost to the Sydney Swans and the Hawthorn Hawks in prior games. Yet, this side did well to pull off wins over the Port Adelaide Power and the Geelong Cats in other encounters in that run, securing 73-51 and 74-78 wins. Carlton Blues

Carlton Blues continued their decent performance against the Richmond Tigers the previous weekend, securing a 70-131 win. However, prior encounters to that win saw Carlton Blues secure wins over the Gold Coast Suns, Port Adelaide Power, Essendon Bombers, and the Geelong Cats. In the meantime, this side lost three out of four consecutive matches against the Geelong Cats, Collingwood Magpies, and the Sydney Swans, with the only win in that run being against the Melbourne Demons. In the AFL, Carlton Blues have the second most points accumulated, 44 from 15 matches, eight behind first-placed Carlton Blues.
