New York Mets vs New York Yankees Prediction: Derby unlikely to be high-scoring

Mets had a tough series

Before the games against the Yankees, Buck Showalter's team hosted the tough San Diego Padres. The Mets won the last meeting of the confrontation, but before that they lost twice in a row, 1-4, 1-2, 8-5. Another series that has left questions as to how ready the Mets are to compete with the contenders at this point. The team still leads its division, but could give up the lead to Atlanta very soon.

But while the Mets nearly let Atlanta ahead in the division, the Yankees are about to lose the top spot in the conference. Aaron Boone's team recently lost two straight to Houston, giving the Astros the season series and now only 1.5 wins ahead of the Texans.

After a setback against Houston, the Yankees played Baltimore on the road and managed to take 2 of 3 games from their division outsider, 7-6, 3-6, 6-0.

Starting on the mound for the Yankees in the upcoming game will be Jordan Montgomery, 3-2 and a 3.24 ERA in 19 games this season.

The New York Mets have been frankly unimpressive lately. Buck Showalter's team had lost three straight, including to the Chicago Cubs, before winning their last game against San Diego. The Yankees, though, judging by the difficult series in Baltimore, were somewhat stunned by the loss to Houston, so don't bank on Aaron Boone's team's success in the upcoming game either. In such a crucial encounter like the New York derby, the opponents will play defense with maximum responsibility, given that both teams have a tremendous amount of potential. Accordingly, there won't be many runs.
